Mighty Micah Foundation Research Fund

We are excited to announce a new initiative called the Mighty Micah Foundation Research Fund. Our goal is to establish a research grant focused on Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) and related treatments. Your generous gift will help raise the necessary money to award a scientific researcher a very important financial grant.

Mighty Micah's Story

Micah Elizabeth Sigle was born on December 1, 2015 at 9:25 am to Luke and Leah Sigle of Nashville. She passed away on January 1, 2016 at 8:34 am. Micah's life was only 31 days long, but her impact was felt by many, thanks to her mighty spirit and continuous fight.17 weeks into the pregnancy, Micah was diagnosed with a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH). With a CDH, a hole forms in the diaphragm and organs move up through the hole preventing the lungs from developing and expanding. In Micah's case, the hole was large enough that the stomach, liver and intestines were above the diaphragm. When Micah was born, she wasn't able to breathe on her own, and was immediately taken into care of the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) at the Monroe Carrel Jr Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. Micah was placed on ECMO (heart & lung bypass), 36 hours after birth and remained on it for 21 days. Her diaphragm was surgically repaired on December 8th, with the organs placed below the diaphragm. Micah struggled with bleeding following her diaphragm surgery and required two follow up procedures to clear the pooling blood. When she was removed from ECMO, the doctors didn't expect her lungs or heart to support her more than a few hours. She defied the odds and battled for another nine days, blessing us with her presence on Christmas and New Years Eve. Her journey came with many ups and downs, but Micah never stopped fighting until her death on January 1st. Micah's journey impacted family, friends and strangers through Facebook updates. If you were impacted by Micah's story, please consider giving to the Mighty Micah Foundation.

Our mission is to raise money to support families that have been impacted or will be impacted by Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia. We want our foundation to help find a cure by focusing on research.
